Katrina Spies, DVM, CHVP, CCRV, CVA, CVPP, CVCH & CVFT
Integrative Medicine and Hospice Care Doctor
Dr. Katrina Spies brings a wealth of experience and advanced training to Cladda as she leads the opening of the Integrative Medicine and Hospice Care Department. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Pre-Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Education from The Citadel before pursuing her passion for veterinary medicine. Dr. Spies received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed a specialty small animal internship at VCA Southpaws in Fairfax, Virginia.
For nearly two decades, Dr. Spies has served the Northern Virginia community as a dedicated small animal emergency veterinarian. While she found emergency medicine deeply rewarding, she recognized a growing need for more comprehensive, ongoing care—particularly for senior, chronically ill, or mobility-challenged patients who required advanced pain management and quality-of-life support.
In 2020, Dr. Spies began extensive training in integrative medicine to better serve these patients. She is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian (CHPV), Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinarian (CCRV), Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA), Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP), and a Fear Free Certified Veterinarian. She is also actively pursuing certification as a Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist (CVCH) and Certified Veterinary Food Therapist (CVFT). Her commitment to individualized, integrative care previously led her to establish Comfort Paws, LLC in 2023, and she now brings that expertise to Cladda’s growing specialty services.
Dr. Spies lives in Stafford with her husband, two senior dogs, and a parrot. Originally from the Midwest, she remains a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling—especially to sunny destinations.
